About
Chris Bobin is New York City based artist who uses fabric and the historically feminine craft of sewing to create distinct and impactful works of art. Her pieces draw inspiration from various Americana themes including consumer advertising, restaurant menus and cookbooks, newspaper inserts, directions, pin-ups, movies and pulp fiction, and are created using a treasure trove of materials collected through years of sewing. Using piecing and applique techniques, Bobin's pieces are often finished with her signature black outline, "drawn" with stitched bias tape.
Bobin's work is more than just beautiful art; it is a contemporary examination of the norms and expectations of femininity, customs and rules of society and gender. By using traditional craft techniques, Bobin challenges the expectations of the medium and brings a fresh, modern perspective to her work. Her art is a true reflection of her unique vision.
